RICKA 9/25 picnic paddle - NK Beach
#1
Please join us for a paddle before the RICKA picnic on Sunday, Sept. 25. We will launch from North Kingstown Beach at 9:00 am (so plan to arrive by 8:30am). Because RICKA has the venue for the picnic, we can park and launch right at the beach, what a treat!
I would like to paddle to Hope Island, depending on conditions. Because of the potential crossing, this will be a Level 3 trip. We will have an easy pace, and likely take a break in the cove (bring a snack for this). Hope IsLand has an interesting history (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hope_Isl...de_Island)) and Tony Moore posted a nice video of a paddle there: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2U2WmyDc70.

You can join either the paddle, or the picnic, or both, or paddle and have your family and friends join us at the picnic (order picnic lunches by Sept 10). RICKA chose this picnic location intentionally to get more sea kayaker participation, so please join us, it will be fun! Picnic info is here, and also on the Ricka main page and newsletter: https://ricka.org/Payments/ricka_picnic.html. In honor of RICKAs 45th year, there will be special treats for picnic attendees!

Hi All,
The forecast for Sunday is looking windy, so I don’t think we will be able to cross to Hope island, we will just stay in the shelter of the shore. If you are planning to come, please check back and I will update here as the time gets closer. There is rain with possible thunderstorms forecast for later in the day, if that looks like it is coming earlier, we would not go.
Thanks, Brenda

Just want to confirm that we will be paddling tomorrow morning from NK beach at 9am, we won’t be crossing to Hope Island and will likely hug the shore and head toward Rome Point. Wind will be sW 5-10kt in the morning, and I expect conditions to be light (but not flat).

A couple of reminders for the day - we are starting off cool and won’t see much sun, so dress warm, in layers. Also, bring a snack/lunch food - the lunches for the picnic don’t arrive until 1pm. See you soon!
