Sorry that I had not seen the change in venue for the Newport paddle. I had earlier planned on paddling Sakonnet Pt on a day for level 2-3 and Saturday looked like what I wanted for paddling with a relatively new open water paddler. With a late start from Providence, we arrived at 12:30. When I got to Sakonnet Harbor parking, I parked next to cars that I mentioned looked suspiciously like Ricka cars. (My new VW is silver with double Greenland paddle tubes on rack.) Nice day with easy paddling until wind picked up around 4pm and rough chop added a little variation for the paddle. My friend got through the chop but admitted that she need to develop her low brace, Greenland style. Back at launch site at 5:30.
Got 34 paddles in this summer. Trying to enjoy as many as I can before I get too old or laid up. Passed the 80 yr mark this Sept. and sort of slowing down.
I kept trying to schedule and join a ricka sea kayaking trip but other paddles for one reason or other conflicted.
