Thanks Brenda. I plan to be there. In the same Halloween spirit, it is worth noting the fantastic beasts we come across while paddling this amazing shoreline: Turtle rock, Horse Head, Bull Point, Lion Head, Beavertail, etc.

Sorry, can't make it. I haven't paddled since the Third Beach trip on Oct. 23d. I was fine on the trip, but a couple of days later my back got really bad...not the lower back, but the mid-back. I had been having some on-and-off problems with my mid-back, but never this severe. It was like a trick knee, only in the back: pain and weakness, plus spasms. It felt like I was going to keel over from the weakness and pain. I applied heat and massage, but to no avail. On Nov. 1st, I went to my doctor. X-rays showed no broken bones, but did demonstrate the usual degeneration for someone 70 yrs. old. The Doc put me on an anti-inflammatory drug and prescribed physical therapy. I have been improving since, but I am still not up for a Level 3 out of Wetherill. I plan to go kayaking for the first time since the event this Saturday, but on a very easy paddle, probably Wilson Park. Sooo...I hope to be fully back when my back is fully back, but I will not be going fully back to pushing myself so hard, so that my back doesn't go back to being such a problem. Well, I'll get back to "yous" later.

Right back at you, Tony. I feel your pain. PT, ibuprofen, and stretching are my go-to treatments. Hope to see you back on the water soon.

I'm planning to be there. Just in the nick of time before the Shrew goes into hibernation.
Be well Tony and hope you heal quickly.

I put the wrong date - this paddle is on Saturday 11/6 (not 11/5j. I’m thinking Level 3, as conditions are fairly mild. Looking forward to seeing the Shrew, Cam, maybe Rick, and hope others join too. Tony, sorry to hear about your back and wishing you a quick recovery!

My ribs are a lot better but I don't want to push it my first time back on the water. So Tony, let me know if you're up for a Level 2 trip on Saturday.

Hi Cat,
Thanks for the post. My paddle tomorrow is going to be solo, so that I can cut it short at any time if my back starts to bother me. (If others were on the paddle, I'd put myself under pressure, and probably try to tough through it for their sakes. Alone, I will feel free to end the trip at any time, if my back starts to act up). If tomorrow goes O.K., then I'll consider subsequent easy trips with other people.
