Hi Friends, I would like to do a paddle on the Connecticut River to see the swallows murmuration. The weather for Sunday looks marginal (possible rain & thunderstorms "mainly in the morning"). Tuesday looks better, but of course, that's a weeknight. So please pencil this in for 9/10, but stay tuned. If neither of those dates work out, we will postpone to later in the month.
I attended this paddle on Tuesday (9/5) with a CT group and posted a trip report on the message board. Please review that post for background.
The put-in is at Ferry Landing State Park, 398 Ferry Rd, Old Lyme, CT 06371. Drive down to the water, and the put-in is a small sandy area with a couple of picnic tables, before the first parking area. There isn’t much traffic on this dead-end road, so you may want to offload your boat, then find parking.
Please arrive by 5pm for a 5:30 launch. It's a short paddle, only 2.3 mile up to the viewing area. Plan to be off the water about 8pm. Bring dinner - perhaps something you can eat on the water. Bring a warm layer for later in the evening.
All the best,
Rich
