21 May - Paddle & Potluck (2023 Season Planning Event) - Rich C. - 04-05-2023
Hi Paddlers,
On Sunday, 21 May we will have TWO morning paddles followed by an afternoon POTLUCK (and SEASON PLANNING meeting)
The paddle 1 put-in will be at the Head of the Westport River, across from Osprey Sea Kayak. Please arrive at 10am for a 10:30 launch. I will lead this paddle.
The Paddle 2 put-in is at Gooseberry Island, Horseneck Beach State Reservation, Westport, MA. Please arrive at 10am for a 10:30 launch. Tim Gleason will lead this paddle.
The potluck will be in Westport, MA at Jon Sharlin's summer house, 1404 Drift Road, Westport, MA, 02790, and will start as people arrive after paddling, typically 3 - 3:30 pm.
>>> Note there are two driveways at this location. Jon's is to the south, next to the telephone pole.
Please RSVP and let everyone know what you plan to bring.

Won't be paddling due to prior commitment. I will attend the potluck and will bring white wine and a tuna/cannelini salad.

I plan to attend and will bring my Boston Baked Beans. Not sure about the paddle. Only one paddle this year against 20 kt winds on the Narrow River and it wore me out. But will be good to see everyone.

Hi everyone,
It looks like Saturday will be a washout, and the weather forecast for Sunday is for rain ending by 0800, but winds will be 14 mph with gusts to 20 mph through the day.
I edited to post and am adding this reply to change the paddle date and put-in location.
The new put-in will be at the head of the Westport River. Use "5 Drift Road, Westport, MA" for GPS. Park along the road and carry down to the put-in by the lawn.
I have been asked what the paddle level will be for this paddle. Normally, this stretch of river is a level 2 paddle. It will be quite breezy, but we will get some protection from the shoreline. If you are a level 2 paddler than can some handle wind you should be OK.
The water temp is still be in the low 50s, and it will be windy. please dress accordingly.

I will grill teriyaki chicken. The grill will be available to all if interested .
Also the outside shower will be available .

Hi paddle friends,
I won't be able to make it as we'll be attending a friend's wedding on Sunday. Also, my shoulder is probably a "2*" at the moment, getting close to "3*", but maybe not quite ready for the Full RICKA :-).
I'll miss Jon's chicken and all the other deliciousness but looking forward to seeing everyone on the water soon.
