With summer over, I am interested in checking out Mackerel Cove for a Sea Kayak surf session. Never been there, although it looks interesting from aerial pics. Any intel on what size swell and direction (looks best on southerly) to check with local NOAA buoys?
TIA.

Hi Sing, how are you! To get surfable waves in Mackerel Cove, you need strong southerly winds, preferably starting the night before, and diminishing on the day of the surfing event. If you have 3' waves in Mackerel Cove, it's going to be double that on the open, exposed coast (South Beach in Little Compton, 2nd Beach in Middletown, 1st Beach in Newport, Narragansett Town Beach, etc.). So I would check on these beaches, and figure you will get half of that in Mackerel Cove. But you can get long, nice rides in Mackerel Cove, due to the gradual slope of the beach.
Tony
Thanks, Tony. That's helpful info!
