Actually, we were talking about Outer Boston Harbor at the potluck last weekend.  Launch from Hull.  I'm game!

Hmmmm, might be the last nice day for a while.  Might be the last day of the season even. I might be up for something in the 8-12 mile Level 3ish.  I prefer some place where there is something interesting like a little bit of bumpy water and rocks to zig zag in and out.

Conditions look pretty benign tomorrow.

Regarding Hull to the outer island, don't you really want to time that with the tides?

I checked http://fishcurrents.com/map.html  The currents are ripping out all afternoon.  I really don't think you want to try to paddle back in from the islands and through Hull Gut against a 2+ kt current.  Zoom in on Hull and the islands and set the time from noon to 3:00 PM tomorrow and you'll see what I mean.

I've done Hull to the outer brewsters on a day when low-tide was noon and it was perfect, ride the tide out, ride the tide back in.  I don't think it would be fun to do it the other way.

Being somewhat new, I don't know all the spots yet.  What about URI Bay Campus south down along the coast to beach about five miles and back?  It looks like there's some rocks from google earth but y'all would know better than I.  I would probably have light waves but not flat.  Tides are such there there would be very little paddle back against in the afternoon as it'd be starting to turn.  Another place I haven't been is Ft. Wetherill but it looked nice in the photos (likely much calmer tomorrow).  If anyone know there way around anywhere on the southshore of Massachusetts, I'd be up for an L3 in that area also.

Hi Ken, there are quite a few of us who've done this trip over the years, and we were mentioning at the potluck last week that we hadn't done it in a while.  This time of year is good because boat traffic has dropped way off but the water's still fairly warm.

Wind affects kayaks more than current; tomorrow's forecast at Hull is 11 NNW veering around to 8 E, which would be at our back coming home if we went out to the outer islands.  Might kick up some chop against the outgoing tide to make things interesting on the way back, but we'd be lucky to see any tiderace conditions.

At any rate, folks, please post here if you're interested in paddling outer Boston Harbor from Hull tomorrow.  If there's enough interest (2 or more besides myself) I'll post the trip.
All the best,
Cat
P.S.  I'm not locked into BH; if there's a local trip more folks are inclined to do, I will happily go along with the majority!   ;D

I am up for anything.
You can bypass the Gut coming back into Hull if you come around the backside of Peddocks.
That said Bay Campus is always nice too.... or Wetherill

Looks like there's more interest in a local paddle.  I'll post Ft. Wetherill.

That should be a nice trip tomorrow. Since you are putting in at Ft. Wetherill,  I may even suggest a tour of the Jamestown and Newport harbors, wind direction being mostly N.  However, I have other commitments and won't be able to join.  Whatever you guys decide, have fun and stay safe. Cam.
