When beholding the tranquil beauty and brilliancy of the ocean's skin, one forgets the tiger heart that pants beneath it; and would not willingly remember that this velvet paw but conceals a remorseless fang. - Herman Melville

Sunday 3/29
« on: March 25, 2015, 09:11:53 PM »

I am hoping to get out on the water this Sunday, weather permitting.  Anybody know what is a good launch place currently?   I am not interested in paddling through slush or ice.
Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave,

I might be in on this one...will let you know for sure by Friday night. Most of the ice is gone, except for maybe isolated spots (inlets and small harbors and salt ponds , usually in the upper bay). I know that the Bay Campus in Narragansett, and East Ferry, Head's Beach, Ft. Getty and Ft. Wetherill (all in Jamestown) are all clear, as well as 99% of Newport Harbor, and Third Beach in Newport. I suspect that most of the launches in the mid- and even upper bay are also clear.

I'm up for a Sunday paddle.
How about 10:30 put-in at the URI Bay Campus ?
Anyone else on board ?

Great, 10:30 launch at URI.   Dry suit time, 35 degree water.
