Update: Rough Water Training Camp
« on: February 08, 2012, 02:30:12 PM »

We just wanted to get the word out on progress with the Rough Water Training Camp.  We are now more than half full and spaces are going fast.  For those of you that are so inclined, signing up sooner is better than later.  We intend to keep the numbers low to assure a productive and intimate event.  The gory details are as follows.  Hope to see you out there soon,
Gerry Polinsky
Sea Sherpa Kayak

BEN LAWRY is offering the second annual ACTIVE WATER KAYAK CAMP here in the coastal CT/RI border area, June 1-4.  Celebrity guest coaches will include Ginni Callahan (Sea Kayak Baja founder and guide, BCU 5 Star Leader, 4 Star Coach and ACA Level 5 Open Water Instructor) and Peter Casson  (Director of EMS’s  Kayak School, ACA Advanced Open Water Instructor Trainer, BCU Coach 4 Sea Award, Coach 3 River and Level 3 Assessor). This camp is co-presented by Gerry Polinsky (Founder of Sea Sherpa Kayak, expeditioner and ACA Open Water Instructor).  Local luminaries include Ron Gautreau (kayak adventure photographer and ACA Open Water Instructor) with others TBD.
Unlike the standard symposium model, this four day intensive (we’ve added a day more than last year’s model) will be a focused instructional which guaranteed to kick start your paddling season.   This is all about fine tuning your rough water skill set:  boat handling in surf, rock gardens and tidal streams,  navigation and incident management (advanced rescues).
Paddlers will be broken up into three groups based on current skills so anyone from advanced beginners to experienced big water paddlers will be working with others of similar capacity.  We'll be staying at a rustic, beautiful camp with a lodge, cabins and food service in North Stonington, CT. Campfires, informative presentations and venue conditions briefings will be some of the dryland activities.  Rental boats and support equipment (including drysuits) are available but limited.  Sponsors include P&H Kayaks, Werner Paddles and Kokatat.
Spots are limited to 24 participants and our ratio will be no higher than 4:1 for any event to assure that classes are intimate and productive.  Spaces are limited and already filling so consider booking soon.
