Sunday December 4?
« on: December 02, 2011, 10:16:39 AM »

I'm toying with the idea of a Sunday paddle somewhere off the north end of Jamestown. Any interest or other ideas?

Hi Carole,
Let me see...Jamestown...Jamestown...that sounds awfully familiar...OH, I think I know where that is. Today I did a little trip before going to work from the northern end of Jamestown out to Prudence and Dyer Islands. I went from the Broad St. launch, which only accomodates maybe 3-4 cars. But the Head's Beach launch should work. Possible destinations are Prudence, Dyer, or Hope Islands, or any combination of these islands, or you can go across to Rome Point (seals!) or south to Dutch Island / Bay campus /Beavertail. Now I feel I made this more complicated, with too many suggestions, but what do you think? Last I checked, air temp. 56 degrees, wind southerly 5-10kts, waves 1ft or less.

Heads Beach sounds good - I hope it's not too long a drive for you though Tony.  ;D  Oh, that's right, you could probably walk to that put-in. Although you didn't actually say so, can I assume that you'll be there?  Is 10:00 or 10:30 better for you? Anybody else?

Oh and I meant to say in my last post - let's plan to paddle north to Prudence.

Sounds good! I'll be there, whatever time you decide on.

Carole, Tony,

I'm game, but I can't find Heads Beach on a map. Can you give me a cross street?

 Hey Rich,
It's at the western end of Frigate St. There's a dirt road at the north end of the beach that leads to the boat launch.

Tony,

Got it, thanks. Perhaps we should start at 1000. Last week I was watching the sun set as I washed my boat off after paddling.

You can also find directions to Heads Beach in Jamestown on "Mike's Kayak Launches" on the sea kayaking home page.

Yes, let's launch at 10:00. See you there!
