Waterproof Monoc?
« on: January 03, 2008, 05:26:08 AM »

Any suggestions for a waterproof monocular, the little kind that fits in your pocket?

Alas, our little surfing session at Bonnet Shores established that my REI monocular is NOT waterproof (I had it in the pocket of my PFD).  It now has a bead of (salt) water on the inside of the lens.

Any suggestions on how to get it out?  I have a feeling it's ruined, which is not that bad since I've had it for more than 10 years and I want to get a waterproof one.

Cat,    If you can unscrew a lens, you can rinse the whole thing in fresh water, dry and reassemble. It should be fine. I've had good luck doing this with two pairs of binoculars, and a cell phone. My current binos are "waterproof", but I don't think they are worth the extra $. I haven't been swimming with   them yet though. Good luck!
