| Description: | Contact Rick Tjader (ricktjader@cox.net) for information. The trip is an approximately 30 mile counter-clockwise loop around the island starting at the Downtown Boathouse at Pier 96 on the West Side. The trip is timed to take advantage of the local tidal currents. The pace is not too fast...at a couple of points, there are breaks to wait for the currents to change directions. New York Harbor traffic is pretty busy, so the group stays together, in particular near the Battery ferry terminal. This particular trip is being organized by Jerry Blackstone, and is loosely affiliated with the Yonkers Rowing and Paddling Club. If you're interested, contact Jerry directly at gerrychem@aol.com or 914 318 4630. Kayaking on the ocean is an inherently risky endeavor.
Before choosing to participate in a group trip check the marine forecast and consider the trip level. Check the RIC/KA Sea Kayaking Paddling Basics for more information about group trips.
